1-2-3 Simple Chicken Coop Plans
July 3rd, 2009    Subscribe To Our FeedWhile growing up, many of us cannot remember a time in our life when we did not own anyhens. We have childhood memories of going out and feeding chickens. Every day when we go out to feed the birds, we flash back to feeding the chickens as a child. Sometimes, those childhood memories are something that one is really fond of. Many of us have childhood memories like that? Do you remember helping your parents build a chicken coop? Chances are you did not know exactly what is going on. Now, here you are, sitting there wondering how to build a chicken coop. As we write this article, we are going to give you some information that you need in order to build those birds a home.
First of all, before you even get the birds, you need to take the size into consideration. How big should your chicken coop be? Personally, we believe it should be a big one. A lot of people prefer building a smaller chicken coop, so they can transport it. If you have no plans transporting your chicken, then you should build a big coop.
For every bird that will be in the coop, you will need to have 4 square feet. You will have to make your chicken coop as big as possible, so your chicken will lay more eggs and a stress free.
You should note that building a big chicken coop won’t be much more work. Sure, you will need some more material, but these materials are not that expensive.
Before starting to build your chicken coop, you will need to figure out where you want to place it. It is important that you place the chicken coop in the right place; I recommend putting it in a place where the sunlight shines bright in the morning hours. Chickens love the morning sun, this is a known fact.
In order to have your birds laying more eggs, placing them in the morning sunlight and having them in a big enclosure will definitely do the job.
You should note that you will only need few material to build your chicken coop and these materials won’t be expensive at all. Basically, you need some wood, nails, mesh wire and a hammer. If you would like to put shingles on your roof, then you can do that as well.
When you have the frame put up, you may need some help when it comes to putting the roof on. At this point, when you have the roof on, it will be time to put that mesh wire up. No matter what you do, even if you have to put a ton of nails and staples through it, we highly recommend you not leaving any gaps between that wiring. If you leave gaps, you will make it easy for those predators to grab one of your birds. There are many wild animals out there that would love to have your chicken for dinner. I have no doubt that you will find that building a chicken coop is real fun. Now that you know how to build a chicken coop, it is time to get going.

Maltese Puppy Training: Making your New Addition feel at Home
July 2nd, 2009    Subscribe To Our FeedThe Maltese is a perfect example of the old adage that sometimes the best gifts come in the smallest packages. When full grown, a Maltese generally weighs in the range of a mere six pounds, but is packed with looks and personality that hook many dog lovers on this breed. However, this small size is an important factor when considering Maltese puppy training, as is the grooming of the full and beautiful coat of these dogs. If you are considering adding one of this breed to your family, there are other elements that you need to understand about Maltese puppy care as well.
Socialization
Maltese are generally happy, social dogs that enjoy spending time with their families, and become quite devoted to them. While this breed in usually good with children, the size of the dog makes contact with very small kids a bit risky for the pet. If you decide to bring a Maltese into your family with very young children, make sure that you supervise the time that the two spend together and teach your kids about the proper method of Maltese puppy care with this small and sometimes fragile dog. These dogs will bark when someone comes to the door, making them reasonable watch dogs, but their size and friendliness do not cater to the idea of a guard dog in the least.
Crate Training
Crate training is recommended by many dog care experts today, and small dogs like the Maltese especially do well with this type of environment. Part of your Maltese puppy care should be to select a crate for your dog before you even bring it home with you. A crate should be big enough for the dog to stand up and turn around inside, but not so large that it decides it is okay to potty in its crate. Most dogs will not go to the bathroom in the area that they sleep in, making crate training an effective means for teaching your dog gradual bladder control.
The crate also offers a safe and secure place for your dog to remain when you are not at home. Not only will the crate prevent you from coming home to a soiled carpet or chewed sofa, you also have the peace of mind in knowing that your dog is in a safe place when you are not at home. Most dogs will not have a problem with a crate, as long as you introduce it early in the dog training process.
The Maltese can make a friendly and beautiful addition to the family. With a bit of preparation and research on the best Maltese puppy training, you and your dog will start your life together in a positive direction.

Save Your Dog’s Joints By Using Dog Steps
June 30th, 2009    Subscribe To Our FeedAny great pet owner understands the importance of preserving your pet’s health. This is particularly true to dogs, who can so easily develop an array of conditions. Did you know that a simple set of pet stairs can drastically reduce the chance of your dog developing a joint or bone problem such as arthritis or hip dysplasia?
If your dog regularly jumps onto and off of furniture (even if it isn’t very far off the ground), his ankles, knees, hips, and spine are absorbing the shock that occurs when he lands. Using pet steps will keep him from having to exert any unnecessary pressure onto his body.
One thing that should be taken into consideration is where the steps will be placed. If you’re looking to buy dog steps for beds, you’ll want to measure the entire height of your bed (not just the mattresses) and find a set of steps that will reach the full height of the bed. This will ensure that your dog doesn’t trip or slip while stepping onto the bed. Another perk is that you won’t feel your dog jump onto the bed while you’re sleeping!
Make sure that whichever set of steps you choose are the proper height for your dog. This can be determined by the size of your dog. Large dog steps will have a 16” step width for dogs 30lbs and over and small dog steps will have a step width of 12” for dogs under 20 lbs. Purchasing steps that are too small or large for your dog could cause him to trip or overexert himself.
Choosing the color and material of the steps can be enjoyable, as they are available in many colors, especially if you get carpeted stairs. Keep in mind that the durability of the steps is also important when picking out steps, as you want to make sure that they can withstand the prolonged impact of your dog’s weight.

Considering Care Of A Chow Chow Puppy
June 30th, 2009    Subscribe To Our FeedIf you have considered the care of a chow chow puppy as an option for having a pet, it’s little surprise. These dogs are quite unique, with tongues that are blue-black and rounded ears. These dogs come in two varieties, a short-haired version, and one with longer hair, which looks as if it has a mane, giving it a very lion-like appearance. People who consider the care of a chow chow puppy often see this dog as a living teddy bear. However, these dogs are quite different from living teddy bears, and it helps to know what it's like to care for a chow chow puppy before getting one.
Background
Knowing the history of the chow chow is key to understanding why it looks and acts the way it does. This particular breed was made in China and Mongolia, and was bred not for use as pets, but as a dog for hunting and pulling loads, as well as for food and fur. This is why these dogs are smart, durable, and beautiful. Keep in mind that if you’re considering a chow chow puppy training, these dogs were more used as a working breed that just happened to make beautiful pets as well.
Temperament
Please note that among the features listed of a chow chow, cuddliness is not one. For those considering the care of a chow chow puppy, understand that they are dogs that are closer to cats in personality, prone to being aloof. Proper care of a chow chow puppy often requires a one-person household, since these pets often do not take well to attention from a lot of strangers. For those with small children, the kids should be taught that the chow chow doesn’t like having attention forced upon it, as it will act aggressive.
Training
When trying to train and care for a chow chow puppy, you should understand that these dogs often require a patient, firm dog trainer in order to teach them to behave. These dogs are smart and willful, and as a result, need convincing to take part in any training. However, because they are so smart, these dogs will learn quickly once they decide to let themselves be trained.
A Loyal Dog
Even without dog training, however, choosing to care for a chow chow puppy means that you will ultimately end up with a loyal beautiful dog. There’s a bright side to this dog’s personality, and that’s if he feels its family is threatened, a chow chow will aggressively protect the family. Of course, the flip side is that visitors to the house need to take care not to make the dog think this. That said, if you take care to remember the dog’s temperament, to care for a chow chow puppy is a great choice to make.

Pet Problems
June 30th, 2009    Subscribe To Our FeedPeople who are planning on buying or adopting a cat should be aware of several things. First of all, depending on its breed, hair could be a problem. Second of all, your couch and armchairs could be in trouble. They love sharpening their claws on them. And lastly, you need to know that it needs to have a clean litter box, at all times.
After reading a lot about cats, online, and putting a lot of thought into it, I still decided to get one. I opted for a Birmanese kitten, who, although scared at first, got used to me and my girlfriend very quickly. She loved playing with it, and that gave it a lot of confidence and made it believe it could play with anything it wanted, and nothing was safe.
By nothing I absolutely mean nothing. That cat cat had absolutely scratched up my cds. All my CDs were scratched, and my couch was beggining to show signs of wear from the constant clawing. My little kitty always had to have its bowl filled with food or else it would get up on the kitchen table and try to eat what it could find. Milk with kitty hair in it just isn’t good, trust me.
One of the things my kitty ruined, and I felt most sorry about, was my iriver clix . I found it all chewed up and mangled, in a corner. My girlfriend thought it was really funny, but was one of the best mp3 players I’ve ever had. Since I was seriously considering giving the kitty away, she bought me a new one, to make sure I didn’t.
I now know better, and keep all my important things inside a locked desk. If something else is scratched, it’s my fault for leaving it outside. My kitty now has full reign of the house, and thinks everything is good for eating, scratching, or chewing. What a bothersome, but very sweet, pet!
